Job Description

The State of Connecticut is seeking Environmental Protection Seasonal Resource Assistants for the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in Hartford, CT. The role involves supporting various offices, including legal counsel, adjudications, and climate planning, with tasks such as research, writing, and administrative duties. Introduction

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Office of the Commissioner, Office of Legal, Planning & Regulatory Affairs is looking for Environmental Protection Seasonal Resource Assistants to join our team in Hartford, CT. The Seasonal Resource Assistant may be placed in any of the offices under the Office of Legal, Planning & Regulatory Affairs:
• Office of Legal Counsel: Serves the agency’s diverse legal needs across the Environmental Conservation, Environmental Quality, and Energy branches and the Commissioner’s Office. Responsibilities include assisting with public records requests and supporting the work of the Transactional Management and Regulatory Affairs legal unit. Research and writing will be required under the supervision of an attorney in addition to performing administrative tasks.
• Office of Adjudications: Conducts hearings and issues written decisions in contested cases regarding environmental permitting, licensing, and enforcement matters. Research and writing will be required under the supervision of an attorney and administrative tasks to assist the office.
• Office of Innovative Partnerships & Planning: Supports cross-agency functions for DEEP’s three branches and the Commissioner’s Office in areas such as agency-wide planning, permit assistance, municipal assistance, and stakeholder engagement.
• Office of Environmental Review & Strategic Initiatives: Conducts environmental reviews of state and federal actions that may have significant environmental impacts. Strategic initiatives involve facilitating coordination on interdisciplinary projects.
• Office of Climate Planning: Develops and supports plans and policies for Connecticut's transition to a decarbonized economy and enhances climate resiliency.
• Office of Equity and Environmental Justice: Develops and supports community engagement and public participation to promote environmental justice and equity practices.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
