Job Description

The Ocean Conservation Policy Intern will assist the grantmaking team in researching initiatives and prospective grantees related to environmental conservation. Responsibilities include investigating current practices in education, composting, and ecosystem restoration, as well as comparing innovations in the maritime industry. Strong research skills and a passion for conservation are essential. The position is primarily office-based in Newport, RI, with a focus on teamwork and communication.
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Grantmaking and Research Coordinator. In this role, you will work closely with our small in-house grantmaking team to conduct research on emerging initiatives and prospective grantees related to the program's grantmaking strategy or 11HR overall programming.

• You will investigate and share findings of current initiatives and research in experiential education, community-based composting, and ecosystem restoration as they relate to organizational objectives.
• Additionally, you will compare and contrast state, national, and international innovations and practices related to our various grantmaking strategies and maritime industry developments in key geographies.

The ideal candidate will have strong research skills in natural science, policy, and/or maritime industry. A passion for the mission of 11th Hour Racing is required. The ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork is essential. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills are also necessary.

Prior experience working in research and grantmaking is preferred. Knowledge of philanthropy and grantmaking is highly valued. Fluency with Google Suite and Smartsheets is a plus. The intern should expect to develop their research skills, writing and verbal communication and presentation skills, knowledge of philanthropy and grantmaking, and networking and exposure to leading national and international environmental conservation groups during the internship.

This is a non-exempt position that primarily works in an office environment. Approximately 90% of time spent on the job involves the use of a video display terminal. Therefore, the candidate must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices.
