About the position

The OPS Environmental Specialist I position at the Florida Department of Health in Pasco County is a temporary role focused on supporting public health initiatives through environmental health inspections and investigations. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Environmental Health Management Team to ensure compliance with Florida Administrative Codes and to educate the community on public health matters. This role involves conducting inspections, enforcing regulations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to protect and improve community health.

Responsibilities
• Conduct Environmental Health Program inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with Florida Administrative Codes.

• Perform site evaluations and approve permits for Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems in accordance with regulations.
,
• Investigate reports of sanitary nuisance complaints and ensure corrective actions are taken.
,
• Perform routine inspections of mobile home parks, recreational vehicle parks, and migrant labor camps to ensure compliance with health standards.
,
• Conduct inspections of swimming pools and bathing places, including water sample collection for analysis.
,
• Participate in disaster response efforts, including working in emergency shelters and assisting during public health emergencies.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university with 30 credit hours in a related science field (Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a Physical or Biological Science).

• FDOH Bureau of Environmental Health certification in Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal and Food Protection or RS status.
,
• Valid Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to hire.
,
• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 65 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in public health or environmental health programs.

• Knowledge of Florida Administrative Codes and Florida Statutes related to environmental health.

• Strong communication skills for educating the public and collaborating with community leaders.
