The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia is hiring a Research Technician for Northern Bobwhite research near Andrews, SC. Responsibilities include trapping, radio-tracking, nest monitoring, and fieldwork. Candidates should have a degree in wildlife management, experience with telemetry, and be comfortable working independently. The position starts mid-January 2024 and ends August 30, 2024, with housing and work vehicles provided.

Description: The Martin GAME Lab is seeking one Research Technician to assist with Northern Bobwhite trapping, radio-tracking, and nest monitoring of Northern Bobwhite, as well as other associated fieldwork, such as vegetation surveys. Data entry, equipment maintenance, and other various duties will be required. The selected individual will work with a project coordinator to accomplish research objectives. The selected individual will also gain numerous opportunities to interact directly with private landowners. Employee will be working with minimal supervision and must be comfortable working independently. Previous experience with radio-telemetry and point counts is desired. Experience with Microsoft Excel, databases and ArcGIS is desired. Applicants must be comfortable working alone after dark and in areas where venomous snakes could be present. Applicants should be able to lift up to 25 lbs for brief periods and may be required to work in inclement weather.

Housing and work vehicles will be provided.

Salary: $13.25

Start Date: Mid-January 2024

End Date: August 30, 2024

Qualifications:

1. Must be working towards or possess a degree in wildlife management or related field.

2. An interest in game bird management and ecology.

3. Individuals need a valid driver’s license and must have a good driving record.

4. A positive attitude and ability to be a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with safe operation of 4WD vehicles and UTVs.

2. Previous gamebird work experience.

3. Previous telemetry, or fieldwork experience.
