Job Description:

The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University invites candidates to apply for a non-tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of Sustainable Engineering Practices, with a starting date of Fall 2025. The appointment will be housed within the Engineering Design Division.

The successful candidate will have significant industrial experience in sustainable engineering practices, will be able to teach analytical principles and engineering applications pertaining to sustainability at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will have a potential for quality student project mentoring. Our preferred candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in teaching or mentoring. We are particularly interested in candidates whose areas of expertise are in one or more of the following areas, however, applicants focusing on other areas within Sustainable Engineering Practices are also encouraged to apply:

Life Cycle Analysis

Designs for the Environment, Disassembly, and Recycling

Pollution Prevention

Sustainable Technology Development, Evaluation, and Deployment

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses and performing services in support of the Engineering Design Division and the Watson College. They will also have the option of pursuing research activities of their own interests.

About the Engineering Design Division:

The Engineering Design Division's (EDD) delivers Watson College’s common first-year engineering program and a minor program in Sustainability Engineering, which is open to all engineering majors. The EDD programs provide students with a solid foundation of core engineering, oral and written communication, teamwork, and research skills, and prepares students for success in their selected major. It accomplishes this through a curriculum that includes exciting design projects, stimulating laboratory experiences, and engaging classroom instruction.

Requirements Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have an earned Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, along with at least five years of industrial or government experience in sustainable engineering. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment, are also essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

A strong candidate holds a Doctoral degree in engineering or a related discipline and has a proven track record of excellence in teaching or mentoring.
