Job Description

The Massachusetts Military Division seeks a seasonal Natural Resources Technician for Camp Edwards, responsible for conducting surveys, habitat management, and supporting natural resource missions from February 23 to September 20, 2025. Candidates should be pursuing a degree in a related field and have field experience. The role includes monitoring species, conducting vegetation surveys, and assisting in habitat improvements. On-site housing may be available.
About the position

The Massachusetts Military Division is seeking a seasonal contractor for the role of Natural Resources Technician, responsible for conducting floral and faunal surveys, habitat management, and training land improvement projects at Camp Edwards. The position will involve working under the supervision of Conservation and Training Lands Field Specialists, with a focus on supporting the agency's natural resource mission from February 23rd, 2025 to September 20th, 2025.

Responsibilities
• Conduct herpetological, avian, invertebrate, and vegetation surveys.
,
• Monitor Eastern Box Turtles and other rare reptiles using radio telemetry and traps.
,
• Conduct point count surveys for Whip-Poor-Wills to monitor population trends.
,
• Monitor roadway puddles and vernal pools for presence of clam shrimp and other species.
,
• Conduct vegetation surveys to assess fire management effects and military training impacts.
,
• Assist in habitat management and training land improvements, including herbicide application and invasive species control.
,
• Complete fire training and assist in prescribed burn efforts as part of a team.

Requirements
• Completion of, or pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, Botany or related discipline.

• At least one field season of on-the-job experience.
,
• Current and valid driver's license.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of ecology.

• Knowledge of research methods and techniques in natural resources.

• Ability to accurately collect field data and enter it into electronic databases.

• Knowledge of species identification, resources, and taxonomy.

• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions.

• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written expression.

• Ability to work independently and in group settings.
,
• Ability to work in the field for long hours under harsh conditions.
