Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is hiring a Natural Resources Lead to work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Colorado. The role involves leading volunteer electrofishing crews in remote backcountry settings for 3-5 days, supporting trout management at Rocky Mountain National Park. Candidates should have electrofishing skills and experience in remote settings. The position runs from July 28 to December 15, 2025, with camping required during fieldwork.
Position Summary

This position works for US Fish and Wildlife Service Colorado Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office and supports a partnership with Rocky Mountain National Park. The individual hired will lead volunteer electrofishing crews in a remote backcountry setting for 3-5 day periods. This work supports RMNP greenback cutthroat trout management decisions and activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Individual will: Lead volunteer electrofishing crew in remote field setting for 3-5 days;
Assure RMNP backcountry policies and procedures are adhered to;
Will coordinate sampling activities with RMNP fishery staff;
And assure data collected is accurate and correct.

Marginal Duties

Individual will perform: Data collection and management;
and assure volunteer safety in backcountry setting. There will be opportunities to participate in other COFWCO work efforts.

Required Qualifications

Adequate electrofishing skills to lead volunteer sampling crew;
Experience living and working in a remote backcountry setting;
Fish Identification and handling skills;
Fishery Academic Coursework.

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Preferred Qualifications

Electrofishing certification;
Wilderness First Aid or equivalent training;
Proven experience leading fieldwork in a remote backcountry setting;
Fish identification and handling skills;
Fishery Academic Coursework.

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Individual will be camping remotely while performing electrofishing trips 3-5 days a week during field season. Individual will responsible for own accommodations outside of this time.

Compensation

Living allowance -$400/week; Housing Allowance- $1000/month

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
