Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is hiring a Natural Resources Assistant in Kansas City, KS, to support the Fort Leavenworth Natural Resources Specialist. Responsibilities include conducting educational programs, managing natural resources, operating equipment, and performing trail maintenance. The position runs from June 1 to August 23, 2025, with a weekly compensation of $650 and no housing provided. A driver's license is required, and health insurance is included.

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.

Position Summary

This position will assist the Fort Leavenworth Natural Resources Specialist in accomplishing goals set forth in the Fort's Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan. These goals will require work in most aspects of natural resources management on the 3,500 acres of unimproved lands on the Post. Over the course of the project the Individual Placement will conduct education programs for K-6 graders and middle schoolers. There will also be opportunities to speak to adult audiences about the natural resources on the Post. UTV's and tractors with implements such as disks, seed drills, and mowers may also be operated. Invasive species control will be undertaken using hand tools, chainsaws, and herbicides. Prescribed fires may be conducted. Various surveys will be conducted using live traps, seining nets, visual encounters. Data compilation and analysis might also be done. Trail maintenance, mowing, low skill carpentry projects, and equipment maintenance may all be required.

Compensation
• $650 per week (combined allowance for living and housing)
• $1,100.00 one-time relocation travel allowance
