Job Description

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a Project Biologist (Natural Resource Specialist 1) for a seasonal role focused on Bull Trout research in the Willamette Basin. Responsibilities include field data collection, supervising assistants, and contributing to reports. Description

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hiring a Project Biologist (Natural Resource Specialist 1) to support Bull Trout research in the Willamette Basin. This seasonal role runs from June to December 2025 and focuses on field data collection and supervision within the Native Fish Investigations Program. Your work will help inform fishery managers and partners like the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Responsibilities
• Collect biological data independently in office and field settings
• Supervise 1–3 Biological Science Assistants
• Develop crew work schedules and assist with training
• Perform quality control of field data, entry, and analysis
• Contribute to annual report preparation
• Support various tasks under the Native Fish Investigations Program

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries/Wildlife Science or related field with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours in biological/ecological coursework
OR
• Three years of biological research, resource management, or field program experience

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with fish sampling techniques (e.g., snorkeling, electrofishing, screw traps)
• Proficiency operating PIT tag detection systems
• Safe handling of listed fish species
• Knowledge of Bull Trout life history and regional fish ID skills
• Experience in non-motorized river boating and rugged field terrain
• Prior supervisory experience in biological fieldwork
