Job Description:

Iowa State University’s Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) is hiring Temporary Field Research Assistants to be hired into an associated team or work independently to support ongoing departmental research in outdoor environments. This role offers hands-on experience in fieldwork, assisting with data collection and research efforts that contribute to the department’s studies on natural resources, ecology, and environmental management.

Key Responsibilities:
• Engage in outdoor fieldwork, which may involve walking long distances, carrying equipment over uneven terrain, and wading through water bodies.
• Collect and document data pertinent to various research projects.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve research objectives.

This position involves extended time outdoors in varying weather conditions, including rain, snow, and heat. Work may include physically active tasks such as hiking to field sites, transporting equipment, and performing research activities in multiple locations. Those with a background in wildlife ecology, biology, or related fields may find this experience especially valuable, as it provides practical application of their studies in a research setting.

Work Schedule/Information:
• Work hours to be arranged between Monday and Friday.
• Schedule may vary based on workload and weather conditions; not to exceed 40 hours per week.
• Temporary position limited to 780 hours per fiscal year; benefits are not included.
• Supervisor, hourly pay rate, and specific duties will be discussed individually with each candidate.
