NEPA Specialist (Durango)

Adkins Consulting Inc. (Adkins) is looking for a NEPA Specialist / Field Biologist to join our team, part-time to full-time, based on need. This position will be based out of the Four Corners area, with preference to those in Durango, Colorado or Farmington, New Mexico. Work is primarily remote, but candidates must be willing to meet in the Durango office weekly and be available to go in the field for project site visits as needed.

The NEPA Specialist will work independently and under supervision to prepare environmental documents, primarily Environmental Assessments (EA), but also environmental impact statements and related technical studies. As a NEPA Specialist you will interact with all levels of Adkins staff and apply your academic and past work experience to a wide variety of complex projects. You will work directly with clients and senior staff, as well as internal and external experts in their field of expertise. Additional tasks may include in-field biological surveys depending on experience, preparation of reports or forms, detailed editing and review of documents, and various other tasks as available.

Primary Responsibilities
• Independently or cooperatively coordinate preparation of NEPA documents, including Environmental Assessments (EA)s, FONSI’s, and DR’s, and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), primarily for privately-funded projects on Federal and Tribal lands.
• Prepare NEPA documentation in collaboration with resource specialists both within Adkins and partner firms, as well as Federal and Tribal Agencies.
• Coordinate professionally with clients to determine project requirements, develop proposed actions and alternatives, conduct site visits, support regulatory and public involvements, and prepare final NEPA documentation of findings.

Qualifications and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in natural resources, biology, wildlife biology, ecology, water resources, geology, or related disciplines.

· Minimum 2 years of experience conducting and/or managing NEPA studies.
• Knowledge of the NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and other environmental regulations and policies.
• Prefer those experienced in the BLM Farmington Field Office or the Four Corners Region
• Experience in working with federal and tribal agencies
• Ability to work with a diverse team and communicate effectively with clients, coworkers, agencies, and other personnel.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, both independently and in a team.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Word and Excel required.
• Demonstrated excellent writing and communication skills.
• Must have attention to detail.
• Physically able to travel to project sites for site surveys and meetings.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $32.00 - $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
