Job Description

The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is offering two full-time internships for the NC-UK Internship Programme in Summer 2025, based in Lancaster. Interns will work on environmental science projects, gaining hands-on experience alongside research scientists. The internship runs from July 7 to August 15, 2025, with a stipend of approximately £2,847. Applicants must be available full-time in Lancaster and have relevant academic backgrounds.

We are excited to offer two internship positions as part of the NC-UK Internship Programme 2025!

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, working alongside leading research scientists, and contribute to real-world environmental research.
• Location: Lancaster - Hybrid working will not be considered
• Time Type: Full-time (37 hours per week)
• Programme Dates: Monday, 7th July – Friday, 15th August 2025
• Stipend: Approx. £2,847 (before deductions)
• Application Deadline: Friday, 14th March 2025 (Apply early!)
• Interviews: 31st March – 11th April 2025

The Projects

Project 1: Eighty Years of the Long-Term Cumbrian Lakes Monitoring Programme – What Can It Teach Us About Our Changing Lakes?

Project 2: Smarter Ways to Monitor Nature – Developing Integrated and Adaptive Monitoring Networks to Address Complex Environmental Challenges

Eligibility Criteria

✔️ Available full-time in Lancaster for the full 6-week duration.

✔️ Undergraduate or postgraduate (including PhD) student, returning to university after the internship.

✔️ Hold the right to live and work in the UK.

✔️ Studying a relevant degree in environmental science or a related field.

✔️ Strong communication, teamwork, and independent working skills.
