Job Description
The Multi-Watershed Monitoring Crew Member at Conservation Legacy will collect vegetation monitoring data across watersheds in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. This role involves flexible work with watershed groups and requires camping and teamwork. Crew members must adapt to varying hitch schedules and are responsible for their own accommodations off-hitch. Ideal candidates are U.S. citizens or residents, at least 17 years old, and able to meet physical demands.
Purpose:
Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is a non-profit, AmeriCorps-affiliated organization, whose mission is to Engage future leaders who protect, restore, and enhance our nation’s lands through community-based service. The SCC Four Corners (FC) office is located on the ancestral lands of the Puebloan and Ute tribes, who have taken care of this land for generations.
This Multi-Watershed Monitoring Crew will work with watershed groups across the Southwest to perform vegetation surveying along streamside habitat in 3 watersheds in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. Watershed groups include the Dolores River Restoration Partnership, Escalante River Watershed Partnership and Friends of the Verde River. Vegetation monitoring is crucial to informing river restoration efforts across these watersheds that have been severely impacted by invasive species and other stressors. The crew will also engage in a couple weeks of restoration work in the Summer or Fall, which will likely entail herbicide use for invasive plant management.
Description of Duties:
The primary responsibility of this crew is to collect vegetation monitoring and species inventory data according to each watershed’s rapid monitoring protocol. This crew consists of two individuals (1 crew leader and 1 crew member) that will tie in and work closely with field staff from each watershed group in order to collect data. This crew is designed to be flexible to meet the evolving needs of each partnership. Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work remotely are essential for this Crew Member position. While working (i.e. on-hitch), the crew will camp together, prepare all meals together, and work together as a group to complete all projects and chores. Hitch schedules may vary between 4 days on, 3 off or 5 days on, 2 off and 8 days on, 6 off. SCC does not provide accommodations off-hitch and Crew Members will be responsible for their own accommodations during that time.
Qualifications:
• United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
• At least 17 years of age
• Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an
• AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award
• Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
Physical Requirements:

• Learn and safely perform fundamental outdoor living and skills as appropriate to the project.
• Live in a physically demanding, possibly remote environment for up to several weeks.
Substance Free
In accordance with a drug free program, alcohol and drugs are prohibited while participating in AmeriCorps and SCC activities, and while on organization property.
Time Requirements:
• Typically, this position is expected to serve March 24, 2025 to October 24, 2025, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service
• Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
• Typically, this position is expected to serve 8 days, serving 10 hours each day, followed by 6 days off, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service

• Members must be physically fit and able to serve 40-50 hour work weeks.
Orientation and Training:
Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.
Benefits:
• Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,176.50
• Living Allowance of $500 per week.

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
