Mission Planning Engineer

**MethaneSAT LLC** *MethaneSAT LLC*, an affiliate of *Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)*, is launching a new high-performance purpose-built satellite, *MethaneSAT*, to map and measure oil and gas methane emissions worldwide. The satellite will enable the gathering of methane emissions data on a global scale, aiding in reducing methane emissions significantly and potentially contributing to a decrease in the Earth's temperature. This project is expected to be one of the most impactful environmental initiatives.

Overall Function

The **Mission Planning Engineer** will collaborate with stakeholders, scientists, engineers, and partners to support the successful operation of the *MethaneSAT* spacecraft and ensure the delivery of scientifically accurate data products globally. Responsibilities include satellite command and control, health and safety monitoring, mission planning, and communications to operate the spacecraft effectively in orbit. The role will involve coordinating with various internal and external organizations, understanding and solving problems, and working closely with the *MethaneSAT* team.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily mission planning operations for *MethaneSAT*
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate mission planning needs into processes and tools
• Participate in stakeholder engagements and contribute to improving mission planning processes
• Support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals aligned with EDF values

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience
• Master's degree in a science or engineering discipline preferred
• At least 4 years of scientific or earth remote sensing experience
