Job Description
Novva Data Centers is seeking a Mission Critical Energy & Environmental Engineering Intern for a summer internship in West Jordan, UT. The role involves supporting power and microgrid projects, performing emissions-related calculations, and coordinating with stakeholders. Candidates should be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with strong Excel skills. The internship lasts 10-12 weeks, requiring in-person attendance, with potential for partial hybrid work.

Term: Summer internship, 10 - 12 weeks | 35 - 40 hours/week
Functional Area: Power Supply / Microgrids / Environmental
Project Scope: Supports energy-related work across six data center sites

Position Summary
The Mission Critical Energy & Environmental Engineering Intern will support power and microgrid initiatives serving a colocation data center portfolio. This position is in-person in West Jordan, Utah. The intern will report to the Environmental SME and Energy Team Project Manager.
The role is broad in scope and includes engineering analysis, environmental/emissions support, and coordination with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors. Work assignments will vary by site and project needs; each of the six sites presents unique configurations and operational considerations.
Key Example Responsibilities
Environmental / Emissions Support
• Perform emissions-related calculations and unit conversions using operational inputs (e.g., fuel consumption, runtime, generation output), maintaining clear assumptions and consistent units.
• Develop and maintain Excel-based trackers and calculation workbooks with appropriate documentation and validation checks.
• Reconcile data across multiple sources (logs, meters, vendor documents) and identify discrepancies requiring resolution.
Mission Critical Power / Microgrid Support
• Support power and microgrid project activities through technical documentation, status tracking, and coordination of project artifacts (e.g., equipment data, reports, commissioning/turnover packages).
• Assist with quantitative analyses that support operational and project decisions (e.g., runtime trends, fuel usage patterns, performance summaries).
• Participate in site engagement as required, including capturing field observations and translating them into documentation and action items.
Contractor and Vendor Coordination
• Interface with contractors and vendors to collect technical information, confirm deliverables, and support documentation completeness.
• Maintain organized records suitable for internal review and external readiness.
Required Qualifications
• Recent graduate or in current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred; Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, or related disciplines acceptable).
• Demonstrated ability to perform accurate, multi-step calculations, including unit conversions and data reconciliation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel formula building and general competency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work in person in West Jordan, UT for the full internship term. Partial hybrid can be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
• Coursework or project experience involving energy systems, emissions concepts, generators, chemistry fundamentals, or quantitative engineering analysis.
• Prior experience producing structured technical documentation or calculation work products intended for review is also preferred but not required.
