Job Description

Resource Environmental Solutions LLC is seeking a Mid-Level Water Resources Engineer in Milwaukee, WI. The role involves working on large-scale ecosystem restoration projects, focusing on water quality and watershed improvements. Responsibilities include modeling and designing solutions using AutoCAD, GIS, and hydrologic software, alongside site assessments. Candidates should have a relevant engineering degree, EIT license, and 2+ years of experience in stormwater and floodplain management. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential.
Overview

RES is looking for a Mid-Level Water Resources Engineer with experience in the water resources engineering field, sitting in any of the offices of RES (list provided below).

The mission: Join a growing, multi-disciplinary team of water resource engineers, restoration designers, and environmental scientists working on some of the nation's largest lakes, rivers, streams, and wetland restoration projects.

Working for RES means having a career that truly makes an impact and a job that helps make nature and communities better. Our people share a deep interest and passion for sustainability and ecological restoration. As an ever-growing company, we cultivate entrepreneurship, flexibility, and collaboration while taking a bold approach to project development. We foster a team environment while enriching individual growth.

As a member of our team, you will focus on projects for ecosystem restoration, water quality treatment, and improvements in complex watersheds, as well as solving unique ecological and hydrologic issues in various complex watersheds across the assigned state. Opportunities may include projects for large landscape-level flood mitigation, water storage, water supply, aquifer recharge, and nutrient reduction projects related to EPA's Impaired Waters Rule/Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and Florida's Basin Management Action Plans (BMAPs).

What your day-to-day might look like?

80% of the time, you will be modeling and designing!

As a consultant in Hydrology and Hydraulics, you will be responsible for developing and evaluating plans and criteria for a variety of engineering projects and initiatives; leading and/or assisting with feasibility and concept development for watershed-level stormwater management, stream and/or wetland restoration solutions, water quality treatment technologies and BMPs; identifying errors/malfunctions/omissions and implementing corrective actions.

You will use AutoCAD, GIS, and hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling software (1D&2D) to develop H&H models and interpret results from associated models. You'll get to flex your engineering muscles as you work on innovative designs that require developing new and/or improved techniques and procedures.

Work products are expected to be detailed, clear, and concise, so be ready to shine with your communication skills during the interview! You will be juggling several projects simultaneously, so superior attention to detail, feedback, and the ability to prioritize are paramount.

20% of the time, you will be performing data site visits and site recon/assessment - occasional in-state travel and fieldwork is required!

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have any of the following:
• Bachelor's in Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineering with a water resources or environmental focus.
• Engineer In Training license with the expectation to sit for the Professional Engineering Exam within 2 years of hiring.
• 2+ years of experience with stormwater management, watershed and floodplain management and planning, natural systems mitigation and restoration design and management, and/or stream and wetland design.
• Experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D, TR-55, HEC-RAS/HMS, ICPR V4, XPSWMM, Rosgen IV stream design, and GIS.
• Knowledge of basic civil site design fundamentals (grading, drainage, topography, coordination with survey, culvert/pipe sizing, open channel design).
• Ability to research and analyze different treatment techniques and propose innovative restoration design approaches for water quality treatment and their impacts on nutrients and feasibility in the water budget analysis.

What will make you stand out?
• Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Agricultural Engineering with a water resources or environmental focus.
• Experience preparing water budgets and floodplain analyses, H&H investigation, groundwater hydrology, and stream and wetland biological functionality.
• Knowledge of watershed level hydrology, stream geomorphology, physicochemical processes, stream hydraulics, water quality, design/assessment of urban/agricultural water resource and nutrient management best management practices, aquatic ecology, and sediment quality and transport.
• Experience designing ecological and hydrological restoration projects, including terrestrial, coastal, estuarine, aquatic, and/or wetlands restoration projects.
• Knowledge of stream natural channel design, including geomorphology, physicochemical processes, stream hydraulics, aquatic ecology, and sediment transport in Florida.
• Direct experience with Federal/State/Local environmental regulations and staff and understanding of the Federal Clean Water Act, State Stormwater Rule, and other state and federal environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
• Knowledge of field survey and data collection techniques for streams, wetlands and monitoring wells, and water quality and flow monitoring.
