Job Description
Tetra Tech is seeking a Mid-Level Hazard Mitigation Planner to join their Emergency Management Risk & Resilience team in a remote capacity. The role involves managing staff, developing hazard mitigation plans, supporting local governments, and engaging with communities on climate adaptation and resilience projects. Candidates should have strong technical and communication skills, along with experience in hazard mitigation and project management. Salary ranges from $65,000 to $85,000.

Salary expectations: $65,000 - $85,000 (based on qualifications)
Your Role:
Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a motivated Mid-Level Hazard Mitigation Planner. This professional will have the opportunity to be a part of Tetra Tech's growing national mitigation and resilience practice. With a strong understanding of community resilience, climate adaptation, hazard mitigation, risk assessment, nature-based solutions, social equity, decision support tools, risk communication, and stakeholder engagement, this professional will manage staff to develop high quality deliverables through project management, achieve client satisfaction, and grow the practice through new and repeat clients. The position requires strong technical and communication skills, knowledge of climate change and impacts, and demonstrated experience in hazard mitigation and long-term resilience planning.
Work with communities and counties and facilitate a DMA-2000 hazard mitigation plan update
Develop and coordinate input to a wide range of mitigation and adaptation plans
Support local government and public outreach; facilitate meetings
Interpret risk assessment results and communicate in written plans
Review local plans, ordinances, policies, and update the hazard mitigation plans accordingly
Manage large data sets
Identify mitigation projects to reduce natural hazard risk
Conduct capacity building activities including developing decision support tools, strategy development and community engagement
Work collaboratively with clients, and a team of professionals and supervise/mentor junior planners
Liaise with professionals on technical aspects of project and program development
Conduct outreach, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation of meetings with clients and residents
Assist in the writing, preparation, and technical review of planning documents, reports, presentations, visualizations
Advise, research, and analyze socio-economic, land use, demographic, environmental, climate data
Grow the climate adaptation and resilience practice through the identification of public and private client relationships, business development, networking, and preparing winning proposals
Assist with identifying new markets and opportunities
Knowledgeable about federal, state, private funding sources to support advancement of adaptation projects
Manage project scope, budget, schedule, contract, and multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure client and project team satisfaction
Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree preferred in Urban Planning; Sustainability; Climate Change; Resilience; Public Policy, or related field or equivalent experience.
At least 3+ years of demonstrated knowledge of mitigation and resilience planning; land use/general planning; mitigation and adaptation strategy identification; risk assessment; climate hazards; federal/state funding mechanisms; federal and state climate, resilience, emergency management policies and programs, best practices and standards.
Certified by American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or working toward certification a plus.
Writing sample required to be appended to application.
Experience developing plans in compliance with SB 379 and SB 747.
General planning experience including city comprehensive/general plans
Community Wildfire Protection Planning experience
Travel up to 30%.
Must have a valid driver license.
