Description

The Environmental Restoration Ecologist / Scientist position offers a unique opportunity to join a respected environmental consulting firm specializing in the planning, design, mitigation, and restoration of projects across diverse communities, infrastructure systems, and wildlands. You will be part of our Environmental Hydrology and Design team, focusing on habitat restoration and multi-benefit flood management from watershed headwaters to the sea. This role is based in one of our Northern California offices located in Oakland, San Francisco, Petaluma, Sacramento, or San Jose.

Skills
• Technical expertise in restoration ecology
• Familiarity with California’s diverse native habitats, especially wetlands and riparian ecosystems
• Ability to prepare clear and concise environmental documents
• Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills
• Proficient in managing project scopes, schedules, and budgets
• Experience in conducting biological field studies, including flora and fauna surveys

Responsibilities
• Use judgment and critical thinking to apply techniques for restoration design projects
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and landscape architects on habitat restoration approaches
• Serve as the primary author of environmental documents, including biological assessments and permit applications
• Lead biological field studies such as rare plant surveys and habitat mapping
• Oversee project tasks as a Deputy or Project Manager, maintaining project delivery schedules and budgets

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or (preferably) Master’s degree in Biology or a related ecological field
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in restoration ecology
• Proven ability to work effectively in the field, including carrying equipment and navigating obstacles
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities

Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field required
• Master’s degree preferred

Education Requirements Credential Category
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant ecological discipline

Experience Requirements
• At least 5 years of professional experience in environmental restoration and ecology
• Experience producing habitat restoration design documents and managing projects
