Nexstar Media Group is hiring a full-time Meteorologist/Weekend Multimedia Journalist for WKRG-TV in Mobile, AL. The role involves producing and presenting weather forecasts, covering severe weather events, generating news stories, and engaging with the community. Candidates need a degree in Meteorology or Journalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to work flexible shifts. The position requires both on-camera presentation and field reporting.

METEOROLOGIST (Weekend) & Multimedia Journalist

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL / Pensacola, FL is looking for a full-time Meteorologist / Multimedia Journalist.

The successful candidate will produce and present accurate forecasts during regularly scheduled weekend shifts and participate in severe weather coverage in studio and live from the field as weather situations demand.

This team member will do the same when filling in for colleagues on other weather shifts.

The position is also assigned to generate news stories during shifts when not assigned to weather duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Produce and present weather forecasts for all platforms
• Respond to severe weather events, breaking news, and other urgent newsroom situations as required
• Work closely with the weather team members and news managers to execute comprehensive weather coverage
• Ensure that all weather and news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Serve as an ambassador for the station at station-sponsored and community events; especially in our effort to connect with local schools and community groups
• Shoot/write/edit/deliver stories from the field (weather and/or news) in an accurate, clear, and concise manner
• Interact with viewers and users on social media sites
• Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming (i.e. hurricane specials) and other content
• Fill in for Traffic Anchor (traffic tracking capability is built into our weather hardware/software)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting
• Confident and dynamic on-camera presentation skills with ability to adlib
• Excellent communication skills; both oral and written
• Strong capability in the use of the hardware, software, and systems required to generate weather and news content
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks
• Self-directed learner with a growth mentality who takes action quickly on coaching and feedback to improve performance
• Experience in forecasting and content creation preferred
• Flexibility to work any shift
• Fluency in English
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Meteorologist must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work outdoors with various weather conditions and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.
