Job Description
Flint Healthcare, Inc. is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician in Canada, offering relocation and visa sponsorship. The full-time role requires experience in clinical labs and a commitment to accuracy in diagnostic testing. Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical laboratory settings and a strong commitment to accuracy and quality in diagnostic testing. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting patient care by performing a variety of laboratory tests, ensuring timely and precise results, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient health.
Visa / Green Card Visa Sponsorship is included as part of this position. Full-time role with a 3-4 year commitment.

Expected hours: 36 per week
Education Required:
For MT: Completion of Medical Technology Program approved by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).
or Three years of academic studies at an accredited college and completion of 12 consecutive months of internship in an accredited school of Medical Technology, leading to a Bachelor’s Degree.
MLT: Completion of accredited Medical Technician Program approved by the CLSI.
Experience:
The MT must have completed internship in an accredited school of Medical Technology.
The MLT must have completed internship in an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technician.
The MT/MLT must have comprehensive knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques and instrumentation and the ability to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgment while performing routine and emergency procedures.
Licenses / Certifications:
ASCP board certified or equivalent, or qualified through examination by the Health, Education and Welfare accreditation program. Valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and reliable transportation required. Current CPR or BLS preferred.

Job Responsibilities:
• Follows the laboratory’s corrective action policies and procedures whenever systems are not within established acceptable levels of performance. Documents all corrective action when systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
• Demonstrates the ability to test and report within the required turn-around-time, prioritizing appropriately. Communicates or resolves specimen or testing problems quickly and completely.
• Observes Standard Precautions, uses personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever the possibility of exposure exists. Reports all injuries, exposures and unsafe work practices immediately to supervisor. Demonstrates knowledge of all hospital and laboratory safety and disaster procedures. Communicates hazards immediately to affected personnel and/or supervisor. Reports missing or damaged PPE to supervisor immediately
• Demonstrates competency in routine (venipuncture) and special collection techniques by obtaining acceptable specimens including, but not limited to, blood gases, throat swabs, influenzae swabs, timed specimens, blood culture collection, blood bank specimens, coagulation studies, difficult draws and special situations (fasting).
• Demonstrates ability to process specimens according to phlebotomy and laboratory department procedures. Minimizes unnecessarily large volumes of draw.
• Consistently reports stat results within 30-60 minutes. Documents reason for delay.
• Maintains legible and accurate records as required.
• Demonstrates the ability to assist, orient, and train co-workers and other hospital/medical personnel in laboratory policies and procedures
• Performs additional confirmation or alternative testing when appropriate
• ABSOLUTELY Identifies patients using 2 unique identifiers. Completely and accurately labels primary specimens and aliquots. Attaches typenex bands to patients and specimens according to procedure.
• Willingly takes on additional responsibilities
• Demonstrates the knowledge of age specific differential normal values, questioning abnormal results based on those normal values. (Example – increased lymph’s in children, presence of NRBC’s in newborns). Selects procedural course of action appropriate for patient age, type of sample, and test requested.
• Demonstrates ability to correlate lab results with clinical information and other laboratory results to assess/validate tests results and procedures.
• Evaluates results to recognize or detect procedural, technical problems or other sources of error. Exercise initiative and independent judgment to troubleshoot completely and efficiently
• Demonstrates a complete understanding of policies and procedures as outlined in the individual department policy and procedure manuals
• Reports test results to state health department within time frame established for each disease.
• Demonstrates ability to clearly and accurately report results in a timely manner. Recognizes and reports critical values (including age dependent critical) within specified time frame, to responsible clinical care professional.
• Demonstrates ability to perform quality control according to procedure, taking appropriate corrective action when necessary. Validates instrument performance to insure test results within acceptable limits.
• Demonstrates ability to maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and operate instruments to provide accurate and efficient testing. Consistently documents instrument checks, problems and solutions.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of ordering, labeling, handling, processing, and storage of specimens and reagents.
• Demonstrates that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Satisfactorily completes yearly laboratory competencies.
• Correctly logs in and reports pathology specimens.
• Develops the ability to work in demanding and stressful situations.
