Job Description

H9 Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical Technician for a Renewable Energy Plant in Norfolk, UK. Responsibilities include mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis, coordinating third-party suppliers, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational guidelines. The role involves both planned and reactive maintenance, supporting engineering integrity strategies, and may require occasional national travel. The technician will also assist in managing engineering documentation and maintenance strategies to maximize plant reliability and efficiency.
H9 Technical are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to work on our clients Renewable Energy Plant based in Norfolk.
• Reporting to the Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance, breakdown activities and coordination of 3rd party suppliers.
• To ensure the plant is maintained with respect to safety, environmental, OEM and industry recognised best practice guidelines, to deliver the highest levels of availability, reliability and efficiency, whilst maintaining engineering integrity at all times.
• Undertake practical application and timely diagnosis, fault finding and scheduled/unscheduled repair and maintenance of the mechanical plant and systems.
• Ensure all planned and reactive maintenance work is completed and updated within the CMMS.
• Ensure all site engineering and maintenance procedures and management instructions are complied with at all times, undertaking reviews of such documents as required.
• Provide support and input into the sites engineering integrity strategy and asset risk register, for all mechanical assets.
• To work flexibly in support of the business, able to change working patterns where necessary in order to meet the needs of the business.
• Undertake the role of the Maintenance Manager from time to time, as per delegated authority.
• Some occasional and ad-hoc national travel may be required.
• Maintain the plant against OEM guidance, applicable legislation and industry best practice in line with the CMMS, to ensure the availability of the plant is maximised.
• Undertake and support the daily planned maintenance activities in line with the agreed CMMS plan, liaising with QHSE and operations colleagues and submitting the required CMMS/Safety System documents and RAMS within the locally agreed timeframes.
• Undertake practical application and timely diagnosis, fault finding and repair of the plant, in liaison with operations team, with or without 3rd party contract support.
• Undertake proactive measures to improve plant reliability, efficiency and performance, whilst maintaining overall plant integrity in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
• Ensure the sites CMMS is maintained and proactively used to record all historical works undertaken.
• Undertake specific engineering integrity assessments not limited to floor gratings, handrails and fixed ladders.
• Provide engineering technical support as required to the fuel handling and operations team for plant technical issue resolution.
• Ensure the mechanical spares including strategic spares are controlled, replenished in line with agreed levels and secured at all times.
• Support in maintaining and updating the sites long-term engineering integrity strategy and short/mid-term maintenance strategy for all mechanical assets.
• Support the participation, implementation and completion of all plant modifications (including simulations) in accordance with local arrangements.
• Support the delivery of all sites quality requirements as per local QHSE guidance.
• Budgetary responsibility as per delegated authority.
• Support outage works, including general planning, scheduling, in-house delivery and 3rd party service provider co-ordination.
• Adhere to health, safety and environmental management policies and assist in the creation/development of all site operations procedures, so they remain accurate, suitable and sufficient.
• Adhere to all Company Policies & Procedures those specified in the Employment Handbook, H&S Policy, IMS System and any financial/accounting systems.
• ONC / C&G / NVQ level 3 in a mechanical engineering discipline is essential, along with a high level of practical thermal/process plant maintenance experience.
• A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, with IOSH Managing Safely a preferred requirement.
• Knowledge and experience of maintaining a biomass or thermal power plant process, permit and safety systems and WSE(LOLER/PSSR).
• General knowledge and experience of steam turbines, combustion systems, steam cycle chemistry, WTP, generators and flue gas emission abatement.
• Working knowledge of preventative maintenance/defect repair of valves, pumps, fans, mechanical drives and conveyors.
• An understanding and ability to read P&ID and isometric diagrams
• Computer literate with Microsoft Office suite and ideally previous CMMS experience.
• Five years Power Plant Operations experience within a maintenance role.
• Good verbal/written communication skills in English.
• Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated, flexible and committed attitude.
• Full UK Driving Licence
