Job Description
Redwood Materials is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Ridgeville, SC, to assist in pilot and commercial production operations. Responsibilities include designing mechanical processing equipment, troubleshooting systems, and developing prototypes. Candidates should be pursuing a mechanical engineering degree and have prior internship experience. The position requires working in both office and production environments, with physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs. This is a full-time, on-site internship or co-op position.

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.
Mechanical Engineering Intern/Co-op
Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Mechanical Engineering intern or co-op to support our pilot and commercial scale production operations at our new campus in Ridgeville, South Carolina.
Responsibilities will include:
• Leading and supporting technical design and specification of new mechanical processing equipment and manufacturing facilities.
• Conducting high-level technical troubleshooting of equipment and electromechanical systems.
• Developing prototypes, research projects, and experiments for new processes.
Desired Qualifications
• Pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Prior engineering internship experience with a leading technology or manufacturing company.
• Hands-on experience building products or projects in the workshop or lab and living with your own designs in a functional environment.
• Coursework and/or experience with thermodynamics, gas combustion and chemical processes preferred.
• Working knowledge of major mechanical design software packages.
• Coursework and/or experience with automation and programmable control systems.
• Highly self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset.
• Willingness to contribute at all levels of the organization.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
• Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards.
• Must be able to communicate clearly.
Working Conditions:
• Split work environment between office and the production facility.
• Work may involve extended periods of working in the production facility.
• Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
This full-time paid position may be arranged as either an internship (12 weeks) or a Co-op (4-8 months), depending on the candidate.
Below are the three possible start-dates for this position:
• May 19th, 2025
• June 2nd, 2025
• June 23rd, 2025

The location of the internship is in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Interns are responsible for making their own housing and transportation arrangements. Please note that due to the location of our campus, public transit options are limited, and the use of a personal or rented vehicle is recommended.
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
