Role Description
The Core Technology Hardware team at Form Energy is responsible for developing innovative hardware solutions across Form’s entire R&D portfolio. From developing game-changing improvements to Form’s iron-air battery technology, to conceptualizing new products, the Core Technology team charts the path forward for Form – and the Core Tech Hardware team designs, builds, and tests the hardware that makes this possible.
Form Energy is hiring a Mechanical Engineer I to join this innovative team.In this role, you will work on designing, prototyping, and testing next-generation electrochemical cells and their supporting infrastructure. You will work closely with other mechanical engineers, electrochemists, and material scientists to understand functional requirements, conceptualize designs, do engineering analysis, and fabricate novel electrochemical devices and experimental setups to test them. What You'll Do
• Design, build, and validate prototypes of new electrochemical cell architectures and experimental setups that meet desired functional requirements
• Conduct an iterative design process, confirming that mechanical and electrochemical requirements are achieved, and refining or modifying designs based on experimental results (in close collaboration with battery scientists)
• Perform analysis (e.g., hand calculations, FEA, CFD, materials testing, etc.) as needed to develop your designs
• Prototype your designs in-house and/or by outsourcing to external manufacturers
• Document your design process and results via written documentation, CAD files, engineering drawings, and testing data
• Propose creative solutions to problems; work collaboratively and communicate proactively across teams
What You'll Bring
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
• Demonstrated experience in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks)
• Comfort with machine shop fabrication tools and aptitude for hands-on building and troubleshooting
• Knowledge of engineering first principles
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Experience or courses in chemistry/electrochemistry are a plus (but not required)
