Massachusetts Clean Energy is hiring a Marketing Specialist for a full-time internship in Somerville, MA. The role involves enhancing marketing strategies, content creation, social media management, and supporting sales growth in the solar energy sector. Candidates should be self-motivated with prior marketing experience and strong communication skills. The position offers a majority remote work environment with occasional office visits, providing hands-on experience in a fast-growing cleantech startup.
Founded in 2015, SolarKal is the leading marketplace for commercial solar in the US, connecting organizations to solar energy providers who compete for their business. Over the past 8 years, SolarKal has advised on over $350MM of solar projects, serving as the procurement advisors of businesses, commercial real estate owners, and nonprofits, in their switch to solar.
Job Duties/Responsibilities SolarKal is seeking a self-driven and motivated individual to enhance the company’s marketing strategy as it sustains a crucial growth phase. This is a rare opportunity to get hands-on experience in the cleantech sector and the burgeoning solar energy industry by working in a fast-growing start-up with several accolades and awards under its belt and a promising future.
The intern will work closely with the company’s senior leadership (Marketing Director) to support the company’s marketing strategy and ancillary new customer acquisition strategies to drive overall sales growth. This role will involve working on a variety of activities such as copywriting, market research, content creation, social media, and press relations.
This is a full-time semester-long Internship. The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, which include:
Write high-engagement content across various mediums that reflect SolarKal’s brand voice.
Plan, build, and execute marketing campaigns and direct-to-client communication plans for digital and traditional channels (e.g., social media, email, publications, events, etc.).
Social media program development including drafting content, monitoring results, making recommendations on automating platforms.
Contribute to strategic planning and execution of SolarKal branding campaigns.
Participate in vendor and partner meetings, creating supporting materials as needed.
Support the marketing and sales teams in software/tool optimization, ROI analyses, and ad hoc requests.
Qualifications Candidates who qualify for this position will be ambitious, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a start-up environment.
If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:
Prior experience in marketing, copywriting, public relations, advertising, social media, sales/business development strategy or project management.
Go-getter mentality with ability to work independently with limited information and generate value.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving, analytical (research and data analysis), and organizational skills, including comfort with Excel.
Comfortable traveling regionally.
Experience with presenting to senior executives and decision-makers, a plus.
Copywriting, graphic design and/or video/photo editing experience, a plus.
Passion for sustainability, renewable energy and/or cleantech, a plus.
Casual, entrepreneurial, comfortable, fun, and proactive work environment that values high performance, results, and accountability.
Majority remote work – with occasional office visits to Sommerville.
Free training and mentoring on digital and traditional B2B marketing tactics, the solar energy industry, incentives, tax issues, finance, prospecting, networking, sales (e.g., B2B lead pipeline development and deal negotiation), etc.
