Job Description
ABM Industries is seeking a Manager of Energy and Sustainability in Milpitas, CA. The role involves optimizing energy consumption, implementing sustainability initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing budgets for energy projects. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in energy management or sustainability. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential for this position, which focuses on enhancing environmental stewardship and engaging employees in sustainability practices.
Job Overview:
We are looking for a dynamic and skilled Manager of Energy and Sustainability to spearhead our client's energy management and sustainability efforts. The ideal candidate will focus on optimizing energy consumption, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring alignment with sustainability objectives. This role is essential in elevating our client's environmental stewardship while implementing cost-saving initiatives and collaborating with all ABM on-site team members to meet stakeholder expectations. This position will have a dotted line to the APS Energy & Sustainability Director on the ABM Platform and will report directly to the Client Account Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
• Energy Management:
• Monitor and evaluate the client's energy usage, pinpointing areas for enhancement and applying strategies to boost energy efficiency.
• Design and maintain a robust energy management program that includes energy data tracking and identifying opportunities for savings.
• Examine energy-related systems and propose improvements or upgrades (e.g., HVAC, lighting, insulation).
• Sustainability Initiatives:
• Lead projects aimed at reducing waste, water utilization, and overall carbon footprint.
• Establish sustainability policies that align with company objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Work toward obtaining relevant certifications like LEED, ISO 14001, or other respected environmental standards.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and laws.
• Prepare and submit environmental reports, including energy audits, emissions data, and sustainability assessments.
• Renewable Energy Integration:
• Investigate, assess, and propose renewable energy solutions (such as solar and wind) to decrease dependence on non-renewable resources.
• Evaluate the feasibility and return on investment of renewable energy projects and oversee their implementation.
• Cost Management and Reporting:
• Create and manage budgets for energy and sustainability initiatives.
• Provide comprehensive reports on energy savings, sustainability achievements, and environmental performance to senior leadership.
• Employee Engagement and Training:
• Enhance sustainability awareness across the organization and deliver training to employees on energy-efficient practices.
• Engage staff to foster a corporate culture centered on sustainability and energy conservation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Energy Management, Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
• 3-5 years of proven experience in energy management, sustainability, or a related field.
• Proficient in energy management systems and sustainability reporting tools.
• Familiar with green building standards such as LEED, BREEAM, or WELL.
• Strong analytical capabilities, with experience in analyzing energy data and sustainability metrics.
• Exceptional communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
• Able to manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting strict deadlines.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification in energy management or sustainability (e.g., CEM - Certified Energy Manager, LEED AP, ISO 14001).
• Experience with renewable energy technologies and projects.
• Familiarity with building automation systems and energy-efficient technologies.
• Knowledge of applicable environmental laws and regulations.
