About the position
The CO2 Transportation and Storage Development Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing our large-scale carbon capture initiatives across North America. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement projects for the transportation and storage of captured CO2 from our cement plants. This role requires a unique combination of technical subsurface expertise and commercial acumen, ideally starting from a foundational career as a geologist or reservoir engineer before transitioning into a business commercial role. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to Holcim's sustainability and environmental goals by leading critical aspects of our carbon capture, use, and storage strategy. You will work in a dynamic environment, leveraging your technical background and business skills to make a lasting impact on our operations and the broader industry. You will collaborate with third-party CO2 transport and storage developers and contractors to represent Holcim's interests and ensure project alignment with our strategic goals. Additionally, you will support in engaging with government agencies to secure necessary funding, permits, and support, including but not limited to the US Department of Energy's CarbonSAFE program, the US EPA for Class 6 well permits, and Alberta's CO2 sequestration permitting. Evaluating and mitigating technical and commercial risks associated with CO2 transport and storage will also be a key responsibility. You will support the negotiation of contracts and agreements with service providers and partners, ensuring compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and safety standards. Furthermore, you will oversee permitting obligations associated with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Class VI well permit applications, including managing third-party consultants performing tasks related to permit acquisition and operations-related reporting. Coordination and interfacing with Engineering during the front-end engineering design and detailed engineering processes of the onshore and nearshore components of the CCS facilities will be essential. You will also support in developing and executing Class VI well testing and monitoring plans and supervise the submittal of reports and notifications to regulatory agencies, as required. Lastly, you will serve as the Company's Subject Matter Expert on Class VI wells and maintain ongoing knowledge of applicable regulations, including analysis of proposed regulations and potential impacts on the Company's carbon capture facilities.
