Job Description
The Cowichan Valley Regional District seeks a Manager for Environmental Services to lead environmental planning and programs related to climate adaptation and protection. The role requires a graduate degree and significant experience in environmental management, particularly in a local government context. The position is based in Duncan, BC, and requires the candidate to live within commuting distance, indicating it is not remote.
General Information
Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Consider joining the CVRD in the critical role of Manager, Environmental Services Division.
Reporting to the General Manager, Land Use Services Department, the Manager, Environmental Services Division is responsible for the development of environmental plans, strategies, and programs in relation to climate adaptation and mitigation, natural hazard assessment and management, and environmental protection. They provide professional environmental planning advice to CVRD divisions, Board, Committees and Commissions. The Manager, Environmental Services Division is also responsible for enhancing and coordinating both CVRD-led and regional environmental programs with municipal, provincial and First Nations partners. The Manager supports implementation of the Board’s strategic priorities, enhanced service delivery and effective administration of the Land Use Services Department.

Qualifications
Our Ideal Candidate:
• A graduate degree in environmental planning, science, natural resource management or a related field
• Minimum six (6) years related experience with a focus on environmental planning and management, preferably in a BC local government setting
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory or management role of staff and consultants
• Professional designation as an Agrologist, Biologist, Engineer, Forester, or Geoscientist is preferred
• A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Hours of Work
35-hour full-time work week with the opportunity to participate in the CVRD’s Flex Time Program.
This position works out of the CVRD's main office in Duncan, BC, and maintains an ongoing in-office presence; the successful candidate must live within commuting distance on Vancouver Island. The position may become eligible for a part-time / hybrid Work From Home arrangement after an appropriate in-office training / probationary period.
Salary
Salary range of $119,926.94 to $140,298.26 per year, commensurate with experience.
