Job Description

Enexor BioEnergy is seeking a Business Development Manager to assist in driving economic processes and negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Responsibilities include developing customer acquisition strategies, managing stakeholder engagements, and co-developing product offerings. The role emphasizes strong customer relationships and requires leading negotiations for binding agreements with significant energy customers. The position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location.

About this role
• Positioned within the Business Development (BD) Team and reporting to Head of Business Development
• Assist Head of BD to drive economic and contractual processes on the PPA and assist all PPA related negotiations.
• Lead the negotiation and signing of Binding agreements with customers
• Assist with business development strategy, product development in conjunction with Head of Business Development

Duties and responsibilities
• Develop a customer acquisition and retention strategy
• Develop in-house commercial and legal principles (PPA Heads of terms) associated to Mulilo product offerings
• Sign binding heads of terms with 250-500MWs of customers annually
• Co-develop Mulilo product offerings with New Markets and Head of Business Development

Key tasks

Customers
• Develop budget and yearly schedule for customer engagement events (conference attendance and participation, roadshows, forum attendance)
• Target 40-50 face to face customer and stakeholder meetings annually
• Develop customer management system (tracking offerings, engagements, gates and project lifecycle)
• Weekly reporting on priority customers and monthly review on market trends and offerings

PPA Heads of terms
• Develop Mulilo Heads of terms together with internal and external advisors
• Ensure Heads of Terms addresses technology and customer nuances (wind vs solar, bilateral vs aggregator, 20 year PPA vs shorter)
• Develop damages (performance and delay) risk allocation between Mulilo and buyers
• Develop buyer credit support structure acceptable to Mulilo
• Quarterly presentations to company on key terms and risk allocation
• Refinement of product offering and terms based on market feedback
• Presentations to executive team for material changes required in the PPA HoT

Binding Heads of terms [250-500MW]
• Interface, negotiate and secure Binding Heads of terms for 250-500MWs annually
• Interface with Senior Developers, Grid, Project finance and Engineering to prepare tariffs for off-takers.
• Interface with Procurement in order to ensure Off-taker/PPA requirements and LDs can be achieved. Provide risk analysis matrices for various scenarios.
• Engagement with Transactions team to ensure PPA HoT drafted correctly to full form PPA

Product development
• Database management of projects, product offerings and competitors
• Support product development strategy with New Markets and Head of Business Development, based on customer requirements (RECs, shorter tenors, hybrids
• Monitoring and participation in Eskom, NERSA and policy bodies that will impact the competitiveness of the Mulilo product offering
• Product offering review semi-annually

Additional
• Assist (where required) REIPPP & Commercial Bid Manager (who will do the bid co-ordination) to compile and submit bid responses.
• Interact with Senior Developers to collate information into the respective bid responses.
• Prepare and manage budgets and risk schedules.
• Management of junior team members to fulfil team deliverables duties

Required skills and educational background
• Degree in commerce, law or engineering, or other relevant field
• 4+ years’ experience working in business development/sales in the energy industry
• Signed and closed private PPAs
• Existing network of energy intensive users
• Legal and commercial understanding of the key PPA principles
• Experience from similar role with same level of responsibility and tasks
• Strong project management, communication and relationship skills towards external project stakeholders to ensure project progress,
• Attention to detail and do what you say
• Role requires frequent travel in-country

The ideal candidate would have a passion for the Renewable Energy sector and personality traits would include a high level of diligence, determination, resilience, and agility.

Able to work overtime according to operational needs.

The position is based at the offices of the company, but travel may be required occasionally.
