Maintenance Worker - Landscape & Sustainability

The City of Auburn is hiring a Maintenance Worker for Landscape & Sustainability, responsible for maintaining city facilities, rights-of-way, and the urban tree canopy. About the position

The Maintenance Worker - Landscape & Sustainability position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the City's facilities, rights-of-way, and urban tree canopy. This role involves performing various landscape maintenance tasks, operating equipment, and ensuring safety at job sites. The position reports to the Landscape and Sustainability Coordinator and requires a commitment to public service and teamwork.

Responsibilities
• Performs basic landscape maintenance and installation duties.

• Performs maintenance and installation of irrigation systems, hardscapes, and landscape lighting.

• Operates and maintains various landscape maintenance equipment.
,
• Assists in traffic control and flagging as necessary to maintain a safe and efficient jobsite.

• Installs and maintains the city's holiday decorations and banners.

• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment.

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of equipment required to operate.

• Knowledge of the methods, principles, techniques, equipment, tools and practices of building and grounds maintenance.

• Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, protocols, principles, practices, and procedures.
,
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques as related to division equipment and vehicles.
,
• Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
,
• Skill in operating a variety of equipment and tools related to building and grounds maintenance activities.

• Skill in the application of pesticides and herbicides.
,
• Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.

• Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
