Job Description
Ample, Inc. is offering a Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship in San Francisco, CA, focused on electric vehicle technology and battery swapping stations. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience and technical education while working alongside experienced teams. The program lasts approximately two years, includes paid training with a progressive wage scale, and requires attendance at local college courses. Upon completion, participants will receive certification as Maintenance Technicians.

By weaving together smart battery technology, robotics and a better designed car-battery interface, we can create an Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure orders of magnitude faster and cheaper than any existing solutions.

Your Role:
The Ample Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship provides a fantastic opportunity to learn technical skills in the growing field of electric vehicles, and earn while you learn. Apprentices work side-by-side with our teams dedicated to the deployment and maintenance of Ample's innovative battery swapping stations to learn practical machining skills. Apprentices will also attend classes at local colleges to learn fundamental skills in electrical work and machinery.
This apprenticeship program is a registered opportunity with the Department of Labor, designed to provide hands-on training and technical education with an estimated 2 years to complete. Apprentices are paid on a progressive wage scale, meaning as benchmark skills are mastered and classes completed, wages will increase accordingly. Upon completing the program, Apprentices will be given a certification for Maintenance Technician.
What You'll Do:
• Work with a team to build Ample swapping stations, assembling them from the ground up and installing, wiring, and testing all robotic systems
• Read and interpret written documentation, engineering schematics, circuit diagrams, etc. for the purpose of product assembly, quality control and troubleshooting
• Resolve assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources
• Verify specifications by measuring completed component
• Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
• Collect data, capturing any assembly issues during the build and then collaborate with the engineering team to optimize mechanical part designs for easier deployment, servicing & assembly
• Travel to deployment locations to assemble products onsite, and potentially to service or improve products as needed after deployment
What You'll Bring:
• Must be able to attend related instruction courses at one of the following colleges: City College of San Francisco (CCSF), Laney College, College of San Mateo (CSM)
• Students who do not qualify for free tuition for these courses may have their tuition covered by Ample. Student must provide their own transportation to classes
• Must have transportation and be able to visit to multiple facility locations for training
• Reliable self-starter, committed to delivering a quality product
• Comfortable working closely with others and integrating constructive feedback from program mentors
• Detail oriented, with a drive to grow and improve skills over time
• Comfortable working with high voltage and operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, cranes
• Able to proficiently use a PC, MS Windows, MS Office Suite
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• LIfting requirement (up to 50 lbs)
Bonus Skills:
• Demonstrated expertise (experience) working in manufacturing / electromechanical assembly environment, or equivalent school/training experience
• Proven experience working with and around power & diagnostic tools, with a focus on safety
• Computer skills are strongly preferred (gsuite, jira)
• Experience with electrical wiring
• Experience working in the field or on construction sites a plus
Shift time:
• 8:00AM- 4:30PM

Ample has partnered with several local colleges to support apprentices in achieving excellence in their occupation. Apprentices can choose from the following institutions:

Our curriculum is structured so that apprentices will take courses that progress in difficulty. Apprentices will take three courses from the list to meet the minimum 214 hour requirement. Apprentices who demonstrate requisite knowledge can advance to Level 2 courses, and take multiple Level 3 courses:
