About the position

The MAEAP Technician position at the Clinton Conservation District is responsible for administering the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) in Clinton County. This role involves providing on-farm technical assistance, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating resources to help farms minimize agricultural pollution risks. The technician will also promote conservation practices and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance sustainable agriculture education.

Responsibilities
• Carry out the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) in Clinton County.
,
• Provide on-farm, one-on-one technical assistance, using farm specific risk assessments.
,
• Promote MAEAP, Clean Sweep events, pesticide container recycling, equipment calibration and other stewardship practices using displays, newsletters, group presentations, demonstrations, public service announcements, news releases, radio programs, etc.
,
• Develop conservation and emergency management plans with producers.
,
• Assist producers in learning about and in the implementation of conservation practices.
,
• Coordinate abandoned well closures, conduct well sampling and perform irrigation uniformity testing, as needed.
,
• Assist Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) with Right to Farm complaints to bring farm into compliance with Generally Accepted Agriculture Management Practices (GAAMPs).

• Maintain client confidentiality.
,
• Maintain accurate and well-organized records.
,
• Provide timely reports and updates to the Board of Directors.
,
• Support District activities and other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture, natural resources management, horticulture, agronomy, animal, crop, environmental, dairy, or soil science or a related degree program is required.

• A minimum of two years of experience in natural resources or agricultural fieldwork is preferred.
,
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
,
• Knowledge of ArcGIS and/or other mapping software.
,
• Exhibit excellent social and interpersonal skills; relate to diverse clientele and work groups.
,
• Able to work independently of direct supervision and as part of a team.
,
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying conditions and traverse rough terrain; work includes both office and field work.
,
• Maintain a valid driver's license and personal vehicle for work use (mileage is reimbursed).
,
• Must be able to pass a federal background check.
