Introduction
We are dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.
The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Fisheries Technician Creel Clerk located at The School of Freshwater Sciences in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This position will require early morning or late evening work and will require working all weekends and holidays. The appointee must be able to travel to multiple locations and be available to work through October 31st.
This is a great opportunity to gain professional fisheries experience. You will work with the public on a daily basis and have a chance to handle numerous fish to improve your ability to obtain biological data from fish while improving your identification skills. Creel Surveys are the best tool fisheries managers have to monitor recreational harvest, and gaining experience working with the public and the intricacies of creel surveys will help develop the skills needed to be successful in future fisheries management careers.
Position Summary
Fisheries Technician - Creel Survey clerk: Independently or under general supervision perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Count and interview anglers; record data; and measure, weigh, and identify fish caught. Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or
reports.
75% - Independently or under general supervision perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Interview anglers; record data; measure, weigh, and identify fish caught.
20% - Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports.
5% - Lead other LTE Fisheries Technicians performing creel survey duties.
Salary Information
This position pays between $17.00 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-12. For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.
In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications
Required:
• Ability to accurately identify common Lake Michigan fish to species name
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to approach anglers where they commonly fish - this includes piers and breakwaters, rocky
shorelines, open sand, cobble beaches, and along streams and rivers over uneven terrain
• Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather
• Ability and willingness to work early morning and late evening hours according to an
irregular assigned schedule
Preferred:
• Completion of numerous fisheries related college courses
• Prior experience working or volunteering in fisheries
