Job Description
Phillip Riley is seeking a Legal Counsel - Planning and Property for Renewable Energy projects in Brisbane, QLD. The role involves providing legal support on land access, acquisitions, permitting, and compliance for renewable energy projects. Key responsibilities include drafting contracts, advising on planning approvals, and managing legal risks. Candidates should have expertise in property law, especially in Queensland, and experience in renewable energy or infrastructure projects.
Our client are part of a large global Investor in the broader Infrastructure space with Assets across Solar, Wind, BESS and other new Energies.
This role involves providing legal support for renewable energy projects, from conceptual stages to operational delivery, with a focus on property and planning law.
Key Responsibilities:
• Offer legal advice on site investigation, land access, acquisitions, leasing, and permitting for renewable energy projects.
• Draft, negotiate, and ensure compliance with land documents such as licences, easements, options, and leases.
• Assist with land tenure due diligence and project documentation for financial close.
• Advise on planning approvals and permits for renewable energy projects.
• Ensure legal compliance with environmental, land use, and energy regulations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts related to renewable energy projects.
• Identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders for project success and manage disputes.
• Stay updated on relevant regulatory changes and provide legal guidance on these developments.
Skills Required:
• Property law expertise (especially in relation to Queensland law) , particularly with licenses, options and leases.
• Experience in planning and permitting for renewable energy or infrastructure projects (desirable).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
The role requires a legal professional with a practical understanding of renewable energy project development, the ability to manage legal risks, and excellent communication skills to work across teams and with external stakeholders.
