Legal Counsel Opportunity – UK

Join a dynamic legal team as a Legal Counsel, playing a crucial role in providing legal services, governance, and compliance strategies across a prominent UK business. This position is ideal for a legal professional with a strong background in IT, Data Protection, and commercial law. It’s a great opportunity for those transitioning from private practice to an engaging in-house environment, gaining exposure to a variety of vital legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert legal counsel on IT-related issues, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, including GDPR. Act as a trusted advisor on data privacy matters, supporting best practices and delivering training to enhance awareness among internal teams. Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, ensuring alignment with legal and business objectives while protecting the organisation’s interests.

Identify and assess legal risks related to IT systems and cybersecurity, providing practical guidance to mitigate exposure. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, bridging the gap between legal and technical departments to address challenges from IT projects and compliance initiatives. Contribute to the development and implementation of robust internal policies in IT governance and contract management.

Assist in managing disputes related to IT systems and commercial contracts, working with external counsel as needed. Stay informed on legislative changes and emerging technologies to provide forward-thinking legal advice and identify opportunities for innovation within legal and compliance functions.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Qualified solicitor with approximately 4-5 years of post-qualification experience, specialising in IT law and Data Protection.
• Proven experience in commercial law and a track record in drafting and negotiating contracts involving IT services.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with exceptional time management and organisational abilities.
• A commitment to fostering a culture of compliance and governance excellence.
