Power Industry Support, LLC is hiring a Lead Power Plant Operator for the Hat Creek Bioenergy facility in Burney, CA. The role involves overseeing daily operations, optimizing processes, and collaborating with engineering teams during the plant's construction and commissioning. Candidates should have experience in project management and biomass fuel operations. The position does not offer sponsorship and is not remote.
Power Industry Support, LLC is actively recruiting a Lead Power Plant Operator for the Hat Creek Bioenergy, LLC renewable energy powerplant located in Burney, CA to drive continuous improvement and optimization of all processes. The facility is currently under construction for planned Commercial Operation Date in February 2025, so the hiring company is looking for a foundational Operator that can come on board and work with the engineering team and suppliers to develop operating procedures, participate in the startup and commissioning of the plant.

The Hat Creek Bioenergy facility is a community-scale 3 MW biomass gasification to energy system utilizing forest sourced feedstock. It will be the first commercial deployment of an innovative gasification system that integrates a horizontally positioned rotary gasifier based off a torrefaction reactor, a thermal oxidizer and an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology in place of an internal combustion engine. The technology is expected to overcome important challenges with the use of forest-sourced wood, including environmental compliance and operating challenges that are hindering large scale bioenergy projects.

We are looking for an experienced Operator with a solid background in project management, commissioning and exposure to biomass fuel operations.

Job Duties

The Lead Operator will oversee all daily operations of the bioenergy plant from feedstock receiving to grid power delivery to ensuring policies and procedures are followed. They develop processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality and productivity.

Responsibilities
• Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to keep the plant operating safely and efficiently
• Maintain production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining quality standards
• Be responsible for production output, preventative maintenance, and good communications with utility and feedstock supplier
• Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
• Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
• Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions
• Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff
• Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime
• Develop and commit the team to plant safety procedures
• Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
• Address employees’ issues or grievances and organize periodic staff evaluations
• Influence and learn from below
• Stay up to date with latest power production best management practices and concepts

Requirements and skills
• Proven work experience as a Plant Manager
• Proven managerial experience
• Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
• Familiarity with power industry standard equipment and technical expertise
• Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
• Computer literacy
• Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
• Strong team building, decision-making and people management skill
