Job Description

Brown County is seeking a Land and Water Conservation Intern in Green Bay, WI. The intern will assist with agricultural performance standards, project construction, and field monitoring. Responsibilities include evaluating compliance with runoff standards, using GIS applications for data logging, and working independently in various weather conditions. Candidates should have relevant coursework or experience in natural resources and possess a valid driver’s license.
Assists Land Conservation technicians with State Agricultural Performance Standard implementation, Lower Fox Demonstration Farm field monitoring, and project construction and evaluation.
Evaluate cropland and farmsteads for compliance with state runoff standards and prohibitions and county ordinances
Assist engineering staff with project construction
Assist Fox Demonstration Farm staff with cropland scouting and trial observation
Use mobile (Field Maps, ArcGIS online) and desktop (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap) GIS applications to log data and generate reports
Interpret state administrative code (NR 151) and county ordinances (Chapter 26). Make simple compliance determinations with respect to those rules
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in all kinds of adverse weather conditions.

ArcMap, ArcGIS ProEducation and Experience:
Coursework in Natural Resources, Soils, Resource Management, Environmental Planning Fisheries or related field experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license.Knowledge of natural resource concepts such as: water quality, erosion principles, conservation practices and their uses.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software.
Ability to effectively plan and organize work load.
Ability to prepare reports and daily monitoring logs.
Ability to interpret and utilize aerial photos, topo maps, road maps, etc.
Ability to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, land owners, and the public.
Ability to work the required hours.
Physical Demands:
Walking on uneven ground in all types of weather
Using hand(s)/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
