Job Description

Kanbe's Markets is seeking a Volunteer & Sustainability VISTA to support food rescue efforts in Missouri. The role involves learning operations, quality control, and facilitating volunteer groups to process increased food donations. This full-time, warehouse-based position requires strong organizational and social skills. The program offers benefits like an education award, living allowance, and health coverage. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and can work another job during off hours.
At Kanbe’s Markets, we are driven by a bold mission: to create a more inclusive food system that transforms food loss into food access. Every day, we tackle critical issues of food justice by rescuing fresh produce that would otherwise end up in landfills and ensuring that every household in Kansas City has access to fresh fruits and vegetables within just ½ mile of their homes. 2025 will be our most ambitious year yet. We’re expanding our operations from 75 to 130 locations, crossing state lines into Kansas' Wyandotte County, and increasing our food rescue efforts by 25%. To meet this challenge, we’ll also engage more volunteers than ever before, aiming to surpass 8,000 volunteer hours by the end of 2024. We’re looking for dedicated teammates who are ready to build innovative, efficient systems that will help us reach new heights. Kanbe’s needs a Volunteer & Sustainability Associate to support this next phase of growth for this program. This is a warehouse-based role to support efforts to process 25% more rescued food in 2025 than the year prior through our innovative Redirection practices. This role will work closely with volunteers and will handle produce and uphold strict quality control guidelines. This will require a variety of skills both social, organizational, physical, and administrative to help Kanbe’s reach this next milestone.

Member Duties : The VISTA will learn the mechanics of the present operations. This will include learning about food handling of fresh fruits and vegetables, Kanbe’s quality control standards, the Kanbe’s volunteer experience, warehouse operations and usage of warehouse equipment and tools. After learning the basics of the current operations, the VISTA will incorporate some facilitation practices into their daily schedule. As volunteer groups expand, this may include growing to lead groups in a solo capacity. As the VISTA becomes more familiar and competent with the volunteer experience of Kanbe’s as well as the quality control practices used by the organization, an audit and evaluation of these services will be completed with the growth trajectory of Kanbe’s volunteer hours in mind.

Program Benefits : Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend , Living Allowance , Health Coverage* , Relocation Allowance , Childcare assistance if eligible , Stipend , Education award upon successful completion of service .

Terms :
