About the Kupu ʻĀina Corps:
Kupu ʻĀina Corps (KAC) is a workforce development initiative established through the State of Hawaiʻi’s legislation for a Green Jobs Youth Corps. This yearlong program employs individuals seeking experience in Hawaiʻi’s environmental sector. Through Kupu’s extensive network of partner organizations, these paid opportunities include positions across Hawai’i in sustainability, agriculture, environmental technology and other green job fields.
Position Availability:
Offered on islands Hawaiʻi Island, Kauaʻi, Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu
Program Duration:
12-month program term, varying start dates beginning Fall 2024
Work Schedule:
Both part-time and full-time positions are available. While work schedules vary depending on the host site, full-time Participants are typically expected to work an average of 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, and in some cases weekends and evenings.
Responsibilities:
The KAC Participant role is an entry- to intermediate-level position for individuals who want to build a career in the green jobs sector. Participants are placed in a sustainability focused role with a host site (one of Kupu’s partner organizations) for one year. Kupu and its host site partners will provide Participants with opportunities for professional development, training, and mentorship. Participants must have a desire to learn and a passion for the well-being of Hawaiʻi's natural environment. Throughout their term, Participants will develop their skillsets and work to ensure that Hawaiʻi’s natural environment is maintained and bettered for future generations.
Position responsibilities vary depending on host site placement but may include one or more of the following duties: data collection and analysis, GIS, collateral creation, community outreach and engagement, energy education and workforce development, native species restoration, monitoring native and exotic wildlife, food production, trail maintenance, research and many other tasks related to sustainability.
Benefits:
• Hourly rate of $18/hour, $19/hour, or $20/hour depending on placement (paid biweekly)
• Kaiser HMO 201 medical insurance (for employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week)
• Paid time off (40 hours total for part-time positions and 120 hours total for full-time positions)
• Retention bonus ($400 for part-time positions and $800 for full-time positions; paid in two installments during twenty-first pay period and upon program completion)

• Applicants must meet the minimum age requirements (see kupuhawaii.org/aina/ for details)
• Applicants must be a US Citizen, US National, US Permanent Resident, or otherwise legally allowed to work in the United States.
• Applicants must be responsible for their own personal housing and transportation arrangements on-island.
• Applicants are not required to have previous experience in the environmental sector, although prior experience may be preferred for some positions.
