Job Description

The London Wildlife Trust is offering a full-time, four-month paid Traineeship for the Keeping it Wild programme, focused on urban nature conservation and community engagement. Trainees will gain practical skills in conservation, health and safety, and environmental education while working outdoors in various London locations. The position is suitable for individuals with a passion for nature and limited experience in the sector, starting April 14, 2025.

As part of the Keeping it Wild programme, we offer a unique opportunity to undertake a full-time, four month paid Traineeship based at London Wildlife Trust nature reserves, where you’ll spend time learning key skills from the London Wildlife Trust team, including valuable practical skills in urban nature conservation, community engagement, environmental conservation and communications.

Salary: £25,357 per annum (pro rata)

Tenure: Fixed-term contract for 16 weeks (4 months)

Start date: 14th April 2025

End date: 3rd August 2025

Trainees will develop a broad range of skills required in the conservation sector:
• Practical conservation & nature reserve management in an urban context
• Health and safety knowledge (including Outdoor First Aid qualification)
• Surveying and monitoring (seasonally dependent)
• Community engagement and environmental education (including supporting delivery of sessions)
• Work readiness, CV and job application support

Our ideal trainee will have the following key attributes:
• You are self-motivated with the ability to use your initiative and work independently
• You have a passion for nature and urban wildlife, and ambition to pursue a career in the environmental sector
• You have an interest and enthusiasm for practical work outdoors (in all weathers!)
• You are a team player with good people and communication skills (both written and verbal)
• You are able to commit to the full programme, including travelling to locations across London as outlined in the recruitment pack

Note: The traineeships are specially designed for people with very limited experience in the sector, and with a passion for nature and urban wildlife.
