Aurora Energy Research is hiring a Junior Data Scientist in Oxford, UK. The role involves developing data science solutions, particularly using Generative AI, to enhance efficiency for users. Candidates should have a strong academic background in quantitative fields, experience in machine learning, and Python programming skills. The position offers hybrid working options, allowing a mix of in-office and remote work.

Description

Aurora’s Software Solutions team builds data and analytics software that support our customers’ strategic decisions on the road to a carbon-free future. Widely adopted by leading energy companies and investors, our software combines sophisticated technology, market data and expertise, and great user experience.

Based in Oxford, you will investigate and implement new data science solutions. To begin with these will focus on using Generative AI to help Aurora employees and Customers work more efficiently with complex data and knowledge.

The successful applicant will combine exceptional problem solving and technical capability with a passion to deliver great solutions for our users. The position suits a recent graduate who has formally studied machine learning.

Key Responsibilities
• Analyse new use cases and work with an experienced Data Scientist to design, prototype and implement solutions.
• Prepare new data sources and methods to evaluate the quality of our solutions.
• Work closely with internal users to ensure our solutions help them work more efficiently.
• Contribute to continuously improving how the Data Science team works.

What we are looking for

Required attributes:
• Strong academic performance (First, 2:1 or similar) in a quantitative degree, with evidence of a year’s formal study in machine learning.
• Data science expertise in traditional machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and data visualization.
• The ability to collect, analyse and interpret complex quantitative data and information.
• Experience of using Generative AI.
• Evidence of good Python programming skills.
• Strong interest in energy and power markets.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt your communication style for technical and non-technical audiences.
• You must have the right to work in the UK as we are unable to provide sponsorship for this role, now or in the future.
