About the position

The Investment Analyst 1 position at the Montana Board of Investments (BOI) is focused on supporting the Fixed Income team in managing a diverse portfolio of investments. The role involves performing credit analysis, executing trades, and monitoring investment performance, all while collaborating with senior investment staff and ensuring effective communication with clients. The analyst will play a crucial role in the implementation of investment strategies and the maintenance of investment analytics.

Responsibilities
• Performing credit analysis on new and existing fixed income investments using quantitative and qualitative analysis.

• Making investment recommendations to the Fixed Income team.

• Executing all aspects of trading and settling fixed-income securities with guidance from the Director of Fixed Income.

• Developing and maintaining knowledge and investment skills to judge various viable investment opportunities using provided resources and tools such as Bloomberg and external research services.

• Monitoring investment performance/risk/activity in absolute terms and relative to benchmarks.

• Maintaining pool and portfolio analytics supporting the external or internal management program.

• Creating and maintaining investment information and reporting that assists with the monitoring, decision-making, and communication of the investment process.

• Assisting internal accounting staff and custodial bank as necessary to achieve reporting standards and process investment transactions.

• Interfacing regularly and supporting the Chief Investment Officer, Executive Director, other members of the Senior Investment staff, and the Board as necessary.

• Communicating with BOI clients as directed to ensure that all requests for information are responded to accurately and promptly.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics.

• One to three years of experience in asset management, investment management, investment consulting, or other financial fields.

• Demonstrated knowledge of investment types, their application, use, and markets.

• CFA and/or CAIA preferred.

Nice-to-haves
• MBA or related master's degree is strongly preferred.

• Progress toward the CFA, CAIA, or other relevant certificates of achievement or additional relevant graduate degree coursework.
