American Conservation Experience is hiring two Invasive Species Strike Team Members for a 25-week term in Missouri, focusing on habitat restoration and invasive species management. Description

American Conservation Experience (ACE), in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is hiring two Invasive Species Strike Team Members for a 25-week term at Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Sumner, Missouri. This hands-on opportunity is perfect for early-career conservationists who want field experience in habitat restoration, invasive species management, and biological monitoring within a major migratory bird sanctuary.

Members will work directly with refuge staff to manage invasive plant species, contribute to habitat restoration efforts, and participate in general maintenance and survey activities. All members receive housing, gear reimbursement, field-specific training, and professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities
• Remove invasive plant species by hand or with tools
• Apply general-use pesticides with appropriate training and safety measures
• Support refuge operations including mowing, trail maintenance, and surveys
• Assist with biological surveys and ecosystem restoration
• Map invasive species and assist with data collection using GPS/GIS tools
• Participate in conservation trainings and shadow professional staff
• Travel to nearby refuges for collaborative work as needed

Minimum Requirements
• U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
• At least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license
• Able to pass a criminal background check
• Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs and work outdoors in variable conditions
• Willingness to apply herbicides with PPE and follow safety protocols
• Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently when needed

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or active enrollment in natural resources, biology, ecology, or related field
• At least 1 year of relevant field or conservation experience
• Familiarity with plant ID and invasive species control methods
• Previous experience with GPS mapping, UTVs, or pesticide application is a plus
• Comfortable working in outdoor environments with insects, heat, uneven terrain, and occasional camping

• Housing is provided at no cost
• $200 gear reimbursement for approved purchases
• Federal Public Lands Corps (PLC) hiring authority eligibility upon term completion
