Job Description

Elevate Energy is seeking a Water Policy Intern to conduct research and outreach on water affordability and infrastructure. The intern will collaborate with the Policy and Water Programs teams, analyze data, and assist in developing strategies related to water issues. This paid internship is for current or recent college students, requiring a commitment of at least 12 weeks at 25 hours per week, and allows for remote work with occasional on-site fieldwork.
Intern, Water Policy

Elevate’s Water Policy Intern researches and conducts outreach around best practices related to water affordability, infrastructure, and efficiency. The Intern works on this research in collaboration with Elevate’s Policy and Water Programs teams to gather data and information necessary for their work when needed.

The Water Policy Intern reports directly to the Water Policy Director. This position is located in Chicago, Illinois and currently remote.

Responsibilities
• Research water utility industry and regulatory conditions across the country to inform Elevate positions, comments, and program expansion
• Research water utility capacity gaps in Illinois, and technical assistance models available to meet those needs
• Evaluate Elevate’s current water affordability and water technical assistance programs using qualitative and quantitative methods to demonstrate impact and inform future activities
• Assist policy and water team in developing a statewide water affordability strategy, building off existing affordability pilots and technical assistance
• Track state and federal legislation pertaining to areas of research
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills
• Persistence and creativity in finding information, often with little guidance, and proactively communicating with team members to share information or ask questions
• Strong research skills
• Attention to detail
• Familiarity with water issues
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

Terms of Service

Internships at Elevate are paid positions, for current college or graduate students, or recent college graduates. The usual commitment for this internship is at least 12 weeks, 25 hours/week. The Water Policy Intern is paid $20/hour. The Water Policy Intern will work remotely but will be required to attend on-site fieldwork.

If interns are handling confidential data, they will be asked to comply with security policies, as required. In addition, all policy interns are asked to comply with a confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement.
