Job Description

The United Nations Foundation is seeking a Climate & Environment Intern to support climate diplomacy, policy, research, and event management. The position is available in Washington, DC or remotely, offering $17.50 - $20 per hour from May 27 to August 29, 2025. Candidates should be enrolled in a degree program or recent graduates, with strong communication skills and an interest in climate policy.
Position Overview

The United Nations Foundation is committed to working with the UN, governments, and other critical stakeholders to galvanize the collective action required to meet the world’s climate and environmental challenges, including on climate diplomacy, science, adaptation and resilience, food and agriculture, shipping decarbonization, and ocean health. In support of that goal, the Climate and Environment Intern will provide support to the Climate and Environment team on climate diplomacy, policy, research, logistics, communications, and event management, with a specific focus on support to UNF’s climate science and shipping decarbonization work.

This position can be based in Washington, DC, or be remote.

This is a paid opportunity from May 27th, 2025, to August 29th, 2025, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 - $20 per hour.

Essential Functions
• Work with the Climate & Environment team to research, monitor, and synthesize key findings and developments in international climate science and communications.
• Support UNF’s work in ocean and shipping by assisting with logistics for country participation at international meetings.
• Help produce a range of written projects for internal and external audiences.
• Support the team through the development of materials for leadership and other teams.
• Assist with organizing and executing in-person and virtual meetings and events.
• Keep abreast of climate and environmental news, including tracking key issues for the team.
• Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
• Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a graduate of a college or university.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest, knowledge of, or experience in climate and environmental policy.
• Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong professional interpersonal skills.
• Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
• Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
• Must be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
