Job Description

The Intern, Aquifer Sustainability position at Edwards Aquifer Authority in San Antonio, TX involves assisting with aquifer sustainability programs, conservation easement monitoring, geologic evaluations, and field research activities. Candidates must be enrolled in a college with relevant coursework. The role requires knowledge of GIS and data processing, along with physical tasks in both office and outdoor environments. The position is part-time with a pay of $19.28 per hour.
Assists with Aquifer Sustainability programs, monitoring of conservation easements, geologic evaluations and EAA Field Research Park (FRP) activities.

Assists with a wide variety of activities related to aquifer sustainability, conservation, and other non-regulatory programs. Assists with analyzing and organizing soil health data. Assists with conservation easement inspections and field assessments using geologic, vegetative and land use criteria. Assists in creating technical reports and maintenance of associated data files in the EAA’s electronic database system. Assists with FRP activities related to sustainable land management. Utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) applications. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be currently enrolled as a student in a College or University with a minimum of 60 hours college coursework and a minimum 2.5 GPA;

• Relevant college coursework with a minimum of twelve hours in environmental science, geology, hydrology, ecology, or other related areas.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Some ability to understand ecological function and identify native flora.

• Some knowledge of GIS software.
• Some knowledge of data processing.

• Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and responsibility.

Job performance may require: listening, seeing, sitting, talking, reaching, pulling or pushing; frequent lifting, balancing, carrying, grasping, handling of items and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds; occasional walking, standing, stooping, bending and crawling in rough terrain requiring a high level of physical exertion; some irregular hours and long workdays, and moderate levels of stress. Job may consist of up to 50% work in an office environment and 50% work outside that includes exposure to extremes in weather, rough terrain, such as brush, rocks, and hills, and may also include exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects, and snakes. Performance may also include work around construction sites, work along roadways, well drilling or other similar work sites.
