Job Description
The City of Minneapolis is hiring an Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator for Sustainability to collaborate with city staff, elected officials, and the community on sustainability initiatives. Responsibilities include monitoring sustainability policies, coordinating with various organizations, supporting policy development, organizing outreach events, and preparing reports. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience in public policy, preferably in sustainability or energy policy. This position is office-based.
Work closely with City Staff, Elected Officials, and the Community in developing, implementing, and monitoring the City's sustainability efforts, and other Intergovernmental Relations work as needed, including assisting the IGR team with regional, state and federal government relations.

• Monitor issues affecting the City’s Sustainability policy and program work at the local, regional, state and federal levels of government.
• Monitor activities of the Public Utilities Commission and assist in other IGR work as needed.
• Coordinate with the League of Minnesota Cities and other cities on sustainability policy initiatives.
• Support new policies and ordinances, as well as revisions to official City documents to ensure successful approval and implementation by the relevant decision-makers.
• Provide support in development and delivery of outreach, community events, educational programs and materials.
• Assist in coordinating energy policy and greenhouse gas inventories.
• Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project work teams on multi-disciplinary work projects including drafting the project scope, scheduling meetings, completing tasks, facilitating meetings, garnering consensus on recommendations, and preparing reports/presentations.
• Prepare and make presentations to groups, residents, and elected officials.
• Act as a liaison to create policies, promote sustainability and participate in community-wide sustainability projects.
• Identify potential funding sources and financial incentives for implementing projects.
• Support the collection and organization of information for reports, case studies, and other documentation related to the project or program assigned.
Working Conditions: Office environment.Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Natural Science, or Biological Science; Urban Planning or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
Two to three years of professional experience in public policy, preferred experience in sustainability or energy policy.

Selection Process
The selection process will consist of a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Background Check
The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Eligible List Statement
The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire two (2) months after it has been established.
Interview Selection
The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate’s education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with staff, representatives of government/private sector, and general public.
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation skills to a wide variety of audiences on environmental policy and issues.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Ability to understand policy implications of issues and make appropriate recommendations.
• Creatively solve problems involving sensitive situations and issues.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Preferred knowledge of environmental issues, including current trends and methods related to sustainability, best practices and technical expertise to address such issues.
