Position Description

Advertised Job Summary The faculty of the School of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (SEOE) at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a 9-month, full time Instructor (Professional Track) in Environmental Science to begin August 16, 2025.

We seek an outstanding individual who uses innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to instruction of undergraduate courses at the university level. The successful candidate will complement, strengthen, and diversify the SEOE's course offerings. An M.S. or Ph.D. is required by the start date of the appointment (ABDs considered). Teaching responsibilities of 4 courses per semester will include introductory environmental science courses for non-science majors (ENVR 101) and courses for SEOE majors in the candidate's areas of interest/specialty.
The SEOE is a multidisciplinary unit within the College of Arts and Sciences, with academic programs in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Geophysics, and Marine Science. The unit consists of approximately 600 undergraduate students, more than 60 graduate students, and 35 faculty representing research areas ranging from physical to social sciences, including marine, environmental and geological sciences. The SEOE houses excellent analytical facilities, including two stable isotope laboratories, a Radioisotope & Marine Sediment Laboratory, and the Center for Elemental Mass Spectrometry. The SEOE has space and support to host computer clusters, and the university hosts The Hyperion supercomputing facility. The SEOE is jointly administered with the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory which is located on the edge of the North Inlet Estuary and adjacent Winyah Bay.
