Adjunct Instructor of Disaster Preparedness and Response

Department:

LSUA Criminal Justice and Civic Sciences (PG008449)

Job Description:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Civic Sciences at LSU of Alexandria is seeking an instructor to join our Disaster Preparedness and Response (DSPR) faculty team to teach undergraduate courses in DSPR. Duties will include course development. This is a 9-month full-time on campus position with opportunities for summer teaching.

The adjunct position may be in person or online.

Qualifications:

Masters’ degree in Disaster Science and Emergency Management or a related field; doctorate is preferred

Disaster Science and Emergency Management related certifications

University-level teaching experience desired

Responsibilities:

Typical full-time instructor duties include but are not limited to:
• Plans and teaches courses as assigned. The instructor full-time teaching load is 15

credits each fall and 15 credit hours each spring semester
• Maintains flexibility and willingness to teach in a variety of environments
• Prepares syllabi, instructional materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and evaluates
• Maintains highest possible standards of classroom instruction
• Regularly keeps office hours and maintains willingness to be receptive to students and

faculty both in person and through email
• Actively serves on university committees
• Actively maintains community partnerships in the disaster response and related disciplines
• Actively seeks opportunities for students to showcase their work
• Actively participates in institutional meetings
• Demonstrates willingness to learn and enhance professional skills through regular professional development and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty
• Stays updated on new information and developments in disaster response
• Assists with course development
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

The adjunct position requires completion of the university’s online training course and teaching the online courses according to university policy.
