Lac Seul First Nation is hiring Indigenous Environmental Monitors to protect lands and cultural heritage along the Waasigan Transmission Line in New York, NY. Monitors will work in teams using science and Indigenous Knowledge during and after construction. Indigenous Environmental Monitors
Summary: Lac Seul First Nation is hiring Environmental and Cultural Heritage Monitors to work as part of a team of guardians protecting lands, waters and cultural heritage sites that are located along the new Waasigan Transmission Line, from Thunder Bay to Dryden.
Construction started in fall 2024 on the Thunder Bay to Atikokan section and in 2025 on the Atikokan to Dryden section. There is a need to have trained Indigenous Monitors working ahead of the construction front, during construction, and after construction in order to protect the natural environment, sacred sites and Indigenous land and resource use.
Job Description:
You will work with a team of monitors to use both science and Indigenous Knowledge to protect the Indigenous values and environment. This will involve working with a partner, as boots on the ground, along the transmission line corridor and construction work fronts to help make sure that the project is carried out in a good way and in compliance with all commitments to the First Nation communities. All training will be provided, and you will be supported by both a project coordination team and a technical support team at all times.
GLP is a consortium of 8 First Nations who have partnered together as part of the 50/50 ownership of the Waasigan Transmission Line with Hydro One.

• Strong interest in environmental and cultural heritage protection.
• Ability to work within a

• Experience using computers or tablets
• Ability to read and understand project communications.
• Ability to work extended hours (at times} and outdoors.
• Valid Class "G" drivers license is an asset but not required
Job Location
Monitoring will be on construction activities. In most instances you will be able to commute from home to the locations, but in some instances may need to stay in a hotel or the construction camp.
Term: Full-time, One Year
Salary: Wages start at $27.94/Hour
Hours: 35 hours a week
