Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is seeking Independent Placement Park Rangers for the Willamette Valley Project in Cave Junction, OR. The role involves supporting park rangers with recreation and natural resource management, primarily outdoors. Responsibilities include managing campgrounds and conducting safety outreach in summer, and assisting with inspections and maintenance in fall. The position requires a valid driver's license and offers a living allowance, with a work schedule from June 30, 2025, to December 19, 2025.
Position Summary

Individual Placements will support park rangers with daily activities related to recreation and natural resource management. During summer, these placements will primarily assist with management of campgrounds, boat ramps, and day-use parks around Cottage Grove and Dorena Lakes. During fall, the placements will primarily assist with natural resource management activities outside the designated recreation areas. Much of the work will be outdoors, in possible inclement weather. The position requires working holidays, nights and weekends during summer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

During summer, interns will staff the campground entrance booth and assist with park management, interpretive programs, and water safety outreach; During fall, interns will support traffic counter collection, boundary inspections, and trail maintenance.

Marginal Duties

Duties may also include upkeep of bulletin boards, vehicle cleaning, sign installation, vegetation management, and other light maintenance tasks.

Required Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older; Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license; Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent; Must have the ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English; Must have the ability to work outdoors and lift up to 40 pounds; Must wear SCA provided attire while on duty; Must have reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in public contact and strong communication skills.

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Interns will provide their own housing with reimbursed amounts of $950/month

Compensation
• $375/week living allowance
• $40/week commuting allowance
• $950/month housing allowance
• $2,000 Reimbursable duty-travel, training, and supplies (receipts required)
• AmeriCorps Eligible (Pending funding)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
